The Punjab Kings have signed Trevor Bayliss as their next head coach. He is set to replace outbound Anil Kumble, who led the PBKS management for three successive seasons until IPL 2022.

Bayliss is currently coaching the London Spirit in the ongoing Hundred men’s competition in England.

Bayliss has had prior IPL coaching experience, having donned the hat in 2020 and 2021 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He also helmed the Kolkata Knight Riders for four years between 2012 and 2015. Notably, the KKR franchise lifted the trophy twice in that period to mark their only two title wins in IPL history.

Moreover, his international experience features a World Cup-winning run with England in 2019.

The Punjab Kings is one of the few teams yet to lift the title, despite featuring in every IPL season since its inception. As per a PTI report, a source close to the franchise said:

“The team has decided to go ahead with Trevor who is among the best in the business and has a proven record. The management is hoping that the team goes on to win the title under his guidance.”

The decision to not extend Kumble’s coaching contract was reportedly made by PBKS co-owners.

The legendary spinner was appointed as the head coach and the director of Cricket Operations for PBKS in October 2019. He served the franchise during IPL 2020 and its subsequent two seasons.

Under Kumble’s regime, the Punjab Kings failed to make it to playoffs. Moreover, they finished their league stage campaign at number six on the points table on each of the three occasions.
