James Franklin set to end his Durham stint after 2022 season

Durham Cricket on Saturday (3 September) announced the departure of their Lead High-Performance Coach James Franklin after the end of the 2022 season. 

Since donning the role in 2019, Franklin has helped the team to progress well in terms of thoughtful strategies and the long-term growth prospects of the youngsters. 

Durham players like Matty Potts, Brydon Carse and Alex Less made their international debut during his stint as well. Furthermore, the Club emerged as the runner-up in the 2021 edition of the Royal London One Day Cup. 


James Franklin's statement


“I have enjoyed my time at Durham Cricket. It has been a privilege to work with my fellow support staff and a great group of players," said Franklin. 

The progression of pathway players into the first team and first team players onto the international stage has been pleasing. The Royal London Cup campaign in 2021 was a particular highlight. 

The time is now right for me to explore other opportunities to develop my coaching career. I would like to thank everyone at Durham Cricket and wish the Club every success for the future.”


Durham's performance in 2022 season

In the County Championship Division Two, the Riverside Ground-based team have been ordinary with a solitary victory in 10 appearances. In this month, they will feature in their remaining four matches of the ongoing season. 

The Royal London One Day Cup competition witnessed them coming last in their respective Group, wherein they tasted success on only one out of eight occasions. 

Further, Durham registered only three wins in 12 matches of the T20 Blast.
