The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is once again making headlines, but this time, it’s not about thrilling matches or last-over finishes. The latest controversy surrounding the league involves financial mismanagement, with players, support staff, and even a bus driver being left unpaid.

Durbar Rajshahi Caught In Payment Crisis

The BPL franchise Durbar Rajshahi has found itself at the center of an embarrassing situation. After facing match-fixing allegations earlier, the team is now dealing with another major issue. Reports suggest that several foreign players and staff members have not yet received their payments, causing unrest within the squad.

According to Cricbuzz, Rajshahi’s owner, Shafiq Rahman, had assured that travel arrangements were made for foreign players to return home. However, these plans have hit a roadblock as outstanding payments remain unresolved, leaving many players stranded in their team hotel in Dhaka.

International cricketers such as Mohammad Haris (Pakistan), Aftab Alam (Afghanistan), Mark Deyal (West Indies), Ryan Burl (Zimbabwe), and Miguel Cummins (West Indies) are reportedly waiting for their dues. Attempts to contact the team management have gone unanswered, leaving players frustrated and in limbo.

To make matters worse, it’s not just the cricketers facing issues—several local players and staff members have also checked out of their hotel rooms without receiving their pending salaries.

Bus Driver Takes A Stand

In an unexpected twist, the team’s bus driver, Mohammad Babul, decided to take action over his own unpaid wages. In a bold move, he locked the players' kit bags inside the team bus, refusing to return them until he received his rightful payment.

“It’s shameful that we haven’t been paid yet. I’ve kept my silence for too long. Now, I’m speaking up—if they clear our payment, we will return the kits,” Babul told reporters outside the team hotel.

Adding to the team’s woes, Durbar Rajshahi had an underwhelming season in BPL 2025, failing to make it to the Playoffs. They managed only six wins in 12 matches, finishing in fifth place. Their campaign ended on January 27 in Dhaka with a match against Sylhet Strikers.
