The fifteenth edition of the Asia Cup will be beginning from 27th August 2022. The tournament will be played in the form of T20 internationals as a prequel for the sides in their preparation for the T20 World Cup. The quadrennial event will be held in Australia in October this year and teams will look forward to figure out their best combination before the world tournament.  

With the Asia Cup being held in the UAE this year with pitches that generally tend to the spinners, the wicketkeepers will be of utmost importance to their respective sides. 

In this article we'll be taking a look a the top 5 wicketkeepers with most dismissals in the history of the Asia Cup. 

1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni: 36

It really isn't a surprise so as to who leads the charts for the most successful wicketkeeper in the history of the Asia Cup. Former Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni is the most successful wicketkeeper in the history of the tournament. The magician with the gloves has played 19 Asia Cup matches and has 36 dismissals in total which features 25 catches 11 stumpings. 

Dhoni is also the most successful skipper in the history of the tournament with 14 victories in all the matches he has led India, winning the title twice in 2010 and 2016. Former Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga is second on the list with 9 victories.

2. Kumar Sangakkara: 36

Next up on the list is the legendary Sri Lankan wicketkeeper batter Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara is one of the players ever to have played the sport for Sri Lanka. With over 18,000 runs to his name in international cricket, Sangakkara is one of the greatest wicketkeepers to have ever played the gentleman's game. 

The Lankan is ranked second on the list of the most successful wicketkeepers in the history of the tournament just behind M.S. Dhoni due to the extra number of matches he's played in comparison. 

The Southpaw has played 24 matches, with a total of 36 dismissals to his name out of which 27 were catches while the remaining 9 were stumpings.

3. Moeen Khan: 17

Featuring in this article at the third position, is former Pakistani gloveman Moeen Khan who was as efficient with the gloves as he was with the bat in hand. Though not always in the spotlight, Moeen has made a lot of crucial contributions with the bat for his side in crunch situation. 

Moeen has affected 17 dismissals in total in the 14 matches tat he has played, with 12 of them being caught and the rest 5 being stumpings. 

4. Mushfiqur Rahim: 17

Fourth on this list is Bangladesh's middle order mainstay, Mushfiqur Rahim, who is known more for his exploits with his bat than his glove-work. An absolute livewire behind the stumps, Rahim, fits the clichéd description of wicket-keepers aptly. 

The 35 year old has played in 21 Asia Cup matches with 17 dismissals to his name, 14 of them being caught and 3 of them being stumped. 

5. Brendon Kuruppu: 14 

Last on the list is Brendon Kuruppu, who becomes the second Lankan wicketkeeper to feature on this list. The former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper, known more for his quickfire batting abilities has affected 14 dismissals in total in all the matches he has played in the Asia Cup.
