  • This Is A Huge Opportunity Rp Singh And Pragyan Ojha On Indias Odi Squad For The West Indies Tour

'This is a huge opportunity' - RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha on India’s ODI squad for the West Indies tour

Former Indian cricketer RP Singh has backed the young players to do well in the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies. The selectors have named a second-string Indian side for the ODI games in order to give ample rest to the senior players following the conclusion of the England tour.

Senior players including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant have been rested for the series. Playing under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, many young Indian stars will be getting an opportunity to impress the selection committee.

"This is a big opportunity for other players because India is heading towards a big tournament now, and they will test their bench strength. They will be aiming to have one replacement for each player, and this is why so many players are being tried out," RP Singh said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Singh backs youngsters to make a mark in West Indies

Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Arshdeep Singh will be the players to watch out for during the three-match series.

The aforementioned cricketers will have the golden opportunity to knock on the selection doors for the upcoming Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup

"This is a good thing because getting the Indian cap is a matter of pride. These small series, where either the seniors are rested or injured, are very important for players. One big performance or back-to-back good performances can keep you in the team for a long time," Singh concluded.

Pragyan Ojha gives his input on the ODI squad

Meanwhile, former Indian bowler Pragyan Ojha also echoed the same sentiments. The veteran believes that India are testing their bench strength before finalising the squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled in Australia in October.

Following the conclusion of the West Indies tour, comprising three ODIs and five T20 Internationals, India will be touring Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series. BCCI is expected to persist with the same ODI squad for the Zimbabwe series as well.

"This is a huge opportunity for the players and they have the time to build themselves as well. You can use this series to build and who knows, you may find a spot in the World Cup squad as well.

"The thinking behind sending this team is to find someone who is consistent and try to include them in the squad for the WC," Ojha added.
