Australian tearaway quick, Lance Morris, is potentially out for the next 12 months from all forms of cricket due to major surgery on his back. For the unversed, Morris, who has been dealing with a back issue for quite some time, has finally decided to go for the surgery.
Morris To Go Under The Knife After Back Issues
The 'Wild Thing' known as Lance Morris, the Australian pacer from Western Australia, is likely out for the next 12 months, or potentially more, due to major surgery on his spine. Morris experienced soreness in his lower back before the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa, but left early due to the issues.
Upon reaching home in Perth, he underwent some tests and scans, following which it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with a lumbar bone stress injury.
After consultations with doctors and physicians, Morris decided to undergo the knife, which means he will be potentially out of action for the next year or so.
Following this, he presented a statement where he believes that this is the only possible way to get back to full fitness, as he trusts in the process and thinks he will be able to recover well from this injury with the help of the surgery.
"I feel this is the most logical way to realise my full potential and return to my very best cricket for the Scorchers, Western Australia and Australia long into the future. I also take great confidence in others who have undergone similar procedures and returned to their best. I plan to work hard through my recovery and return when the time is right," Morris' statement reads.
Lance's Previous Injury Issues
The surgery will be performed by Rowan Schoten and Grahame Inglis, the two top surgeons in this department from New Zealand, who also successfully performed the surgery on Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in October last year, as Green is now back on the field with full fitness.
Apart from Green, many pacers from Australia have undergone spine operations, including James Pattinson, Jason Behrendorff, and Ben Dwarshius, and all have been successfully treated.
Morris, who is three ODIs old for Australia, made his debut against the West Indies in Melbourne last year, while his last appearance for Australia came against Pakistan in November last year. Moreover, he missed his selection for the 2023 Ashes due to a back stress injury.
In 2024, he had to leave the second ODI midway against the West Indian side due to a side strain. In October 2024, a quad injury flared up, but he still successfully managed to play for the rest of the summer in Australia, including the Big Bash League, Sheffield Shield, and the domestic One-Day Cup.
