276 Runs Loss! Australia Hand South Africa Their Heaviest Defeat In ODI History

The South African team won the first two ODIs against Australia convincingly, but the side was brought down to Earth by a rampant Australian side eager to get back to winning ways. In the dead-rubber game, the home side brought their best and thrashed the visitors by a huge margin to get a consolation win.

Chasing a record-breaking 432, the Proteas were never really in the hunt as they were bundled out for just 155, and suffered their heaviest defeat in ODI history. They lost the 3rd ODI by a huge margin of 276 runs, and it turned out to be their biggest defeats in ODIs in terms of runs.

Biggest defeats for South Africa in ODIs

This turned out to be South Africa's biggest defeat as the side had no answer to the Australian onslaught, and crumbled under pressure. Chasing 432 was always going to be a tricky task, and the South African side made it difficult for themselves as none of the batters turned the tides.

A couple of years back, the team had their second-biggest defeats in ODIs at the hands of India. In a World Cup game, the hosts, India posted 326, while the Proteas got bundled out for 83.

South Africa clinch series despite heavy defeat

Despite a huge loss in the third ODI, the South African side created history and won their fifth consecutive ODI series against Australia. In the first ODI, the Men in Green won the game by 98 runs, and it was followed by yet another one-sided win in the second game, as they thrashed the Aussies by 84 runs to clinch the series.

However, the Aussies bounced back with a thumping win, and the Proteas etched their name in history books for all the wrong reasons.
