Nasser Hussain pleads for Hales' recall to the national side

Former England captain Nasser Hussain reckons that Alex Hales should return to England's limited-overs line-up.

There is a debate going on in English cricket about how England's top-order batting might best shape up at the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

Incumbent T20 opener Jason Roy has been struggling with the bat. On the other hand, Hales has been in sensational form in the ongoing The Hundred 2022. The Nottinghamshireman is the third-highest run-getter of the season with 199 runs, including two half-centuries.

The 33-year-old has not represented England since 2019 after failing a second recreational drugs test. The then captain Eoin Morgan was scathing in his criticism of Hales, who had called the event ‘a complete breakdown in trust’.

Since Morgan has retired from international cricket there has been talk of Hales making a return to the national side.

Hussain bats for Hales' inclusion

Meanwhile, batting for Hales, former English cricketer Hussain said the 33-year-old deserves a recall to the team. He also said that with no Morgan and Ben Stokes around, this is the best chance for the selectors to draft him back in the side.

“I try and pick people on their ability as a cricketer really. He did the crime, he served his time, forgive, move on. It’s a bit easier for him now because there is no Morgan, there is no Stokes in 50-over cricket. There are a couple of opportunities. Try and pick your best side," Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports.
