The Hundred 2022: Kim Garth replaces Meg Lanning at Trent Rockets
Lanning took an indefinite break from the game
Former Ireland international cricketer Kim Garth has been roped in as a replacement player for Meg Lanning by Trent Rockets for second edition of The Hundred competition.
What really transpired??
Australian Women's captain Meg Lanning on Wednesday (August 10) told Cricket Australia (CA) that she will take a period of indefinite leave effective immediately, which automatically ruled her out of The Hundred. The announcement comes days after Lanning led her all-conquering Australian Women's team to the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Birmingham.
After making her international debut for Ireland at the age of 14, Garth has gone on to represent her country 51 times in T20 cricket, and was the leading run-scorer for her nation at the 2018 T20 World Cup.
Recently, Garth has signed a new three-year deal with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) side Melbourne Stars.
"We're naturally disappointed that Meg (Lanning) won't be playing for us this year, but she has our total support as she takes a break from cricket. We wish her all the best. The rest of the Rockets women's team are excited to get their Hundred season under way on Saturday, and we'll announce details of a replacement for Meg in due course," a Trent Rockets statement read.
