Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli secured collective batting failures against New Zealand in Pune as Team India crashed to a huge 113-run defeat. The outcome handed the Indian cricket team a rare Test series defeat at home, thus giving Sharma and co. a stern reality check before the all-important five-match Test tour of Australia.

Both Sharma and Kohli also failed to list a single half-century between them in India’s preceding Test series against Bangladesh. With the two modern-day batting legends struggling to score runs, they are now being urged by several Indian cricket fans to commit to Ranji Trophy matches for a while.

Moreover, a number of fans even cited the example of all-time great and former Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, who played Ranji Trophy matches even at the twilight of his professional playing career.

Fans urge Kohli, Rohit To Play Domestic Cricket

Mere weeks prior to India’s high-octane Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia, Indian cricket fans are urging Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to regain their lost touch with the bat by taking up domestic cricket through the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy season.

Moreover, a handful of fans even questioned the red-ball commitment of the two modern-day batting icons, and cited the example of Sachin Tendulkar, who played Ranji Trophy cricket even at the age of 40. Here is a look at some of the fans reacting to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma amidst their lean patch with the bat.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will now turn up for Team India in the third and final Test of their three-match series against New Zealand between November 1 and November 5 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

The two cricketers will subsequently be taking flight for Australia for a series of five Test matches for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Each of the impending six fixtures also constitutes India’s share of the 2023-25 WTC cycle.
