Tamim Iqbal, the veteran Bangladesh cricketer is all set to return to competitive cricket with National Cricket League (NCL) T20. The tournament is scheduled to be played from 11th to 23rd of December and Tamim Iqbal has already started practicing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The left-handed opening batter has not officially retired from ODIs and Tests, but last played for Bangladesh in September 2023. There is still no clarity whether he would make his international comeback or not, but Hannan Sarkar, the member of National selection panel mentioned that he would most likely play for Chattogram Division in NCL T20.
Tamim Iqbal's International Comeback Still A Mystery
However, Sarkar added that Tamim Iqbal would have to go through all the fitness tests like other players playing in the competition. So, it would be interesting to see where Tamim Iqbal stands on that front, but it is highly unlikely that he would make his international comeback soon.
"Tamim Iqbal had expressed interest to play in the upcoming NCL T20. How many matches he will play and when he will play... we still have time in our hand. If Tamim plays, he will certainly play for Chattogram Division. Everyone will have to undergo fitness test. It is our primary criteria that everyone will have to attend the fitness tests and there is a benchmark. We have given chance to some senior cricketers even when they failed to touch the benchmark in the fitness test and because they are senior cricketers and they are playing in the national cricket league. Tamim will have to go through this process."
Tamim Iqbal is one of the most successful Bangladesh cricketers and has centuries in all three formats for his country. He recently did commentary during the Bangladesh tour of India, but with his NCL return confirmed, he is most likely to concentrate his energies on on-field drills in the upcoming future.
