The eighth edition of the Women's Asia Cup 2022 is likely to be hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in Sylhet. The seven-nation tournament will commence on October 1, with all matches being held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The last edition won by Bangladesh took place in Malaysia in 2018. The tournament was postponed from 2020 to 2021 before eventually being called off.

Apart from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and UAE will also be participating, and the teams will arrive in Bangladesh between September 27 and 28. The ACC is expected to make an official announcement soon.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), in their first-ever Women's Future Tour Programme, have set two weeks aside in October for the Asia Cup.

"The proximity to the airport and the hotel where the seven teams are expected to stay makes the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium the best choice for the BCB. Ground 1 of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is where we are looking to host the Women's Asia Cup matches and Ground 2 is where the training will take place."

A brief history of the Women's Asia Cup

The inaugural competition was won by India in 2004 and they have lifted the trophy a total of six times. Since 2012, the tournament has been played in a 20-overs format.

Bangladesh, led by Salma Khatun, broke India's unbeaten streak of six titles by clinching the 2018 trophy, beating the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side by three wickets in a nail-biting final.
