Suryakumar Yadav was among the nine bowlers employed by Indian captain Rohit Sharma during the backend of Netherlands innings in their recent World Cup 2023 faceoff. Bowling for the first time in international cricket, the middle-order batsman sent down two overs in the game after being introduced to the attack in the 33rd over of the Netherlands run-chase.

After Team India completed their 160-run demolition of Netherlands, Suryakumar Yadav took to Instagram and mocked his own bowling by using a Mumbai Indians social media post.

Moments after India’s emphatic win over Netherlands, Suryakumar Yadav took to his Instagram account and mocked his bowling recital by using a social media post of his IPL employer Mumbai Indians. Earlier, the franchise had jokingly posted about Yadav’s bowling spell with a caption featuring a dialogue from the 2007 Bollywood comedy film Welcome.

The cricketer himself indulged in Mumbai Indians banter by responding with a follow-up dialogue from the same movie. Re-sharing the post on his Instagram story, Yadav wrote:

“Subah se na aalu bika hai na kaaandaaa #AAADDHAAA” (Haven't sold either a potato or an onion since the morning)

Yadav’s caption implies that his bowling change was tendered fruitless by Netherlands batters as he failed to make any impact in his two overs.

All things considered, Suryakumar Yadav conceded just 17 runs from his two wicketless overs, in spite of conceding successive sixes at one stage of his spell.

Apart from Yadav, Indian captain Rohit Sharma had also employed himself and fellow top-order batters Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill to have a crack at the lower-half of Dutch line-up with the ball. During the post-game presentation, skipper Sharma claimed that the match against Netherlands served a perfect opportunity for him to test out a possible sixth bowling option for the team.

Suryakumar and the rest of his Indian teammates are now gearing up for team’s upcoming World Cup 2023 semi-final showdown against New Zealand. The much-awaited contest will be hosted by the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15.
