Australia announces T20I and ODI squads [Source: AFP]
Australia have announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball series against India, which includes three One Day Internationals (ODIs) starting on October 19 and five Twenty20 (T20Is) matches afterwards.
One of the biggest changes is that Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the ODI team, while Matt Renshaw has earned his first call-up in the format.
Matt Renshaw returns to Australian squad
Notably, Renshaw has been performing well; his selection comes after a strong run in local and Australia A matches. He has been scoring consistently in one-day cricket, averaging almost 49 since 2021 with six centuries. Although he usually bats at number three or four, he has also become a useful T20 middle-order player.
Mitch Marsh will continue as ODI captain, with Pat Cummins still recovering from a back issue. Glenn Maxwell remains out of action after wrist surgery, and Cameron Green will play only in the ODIs as he prepares for the Ashes.
Meanwhile, star pacer Mitchell Starc returns to the ODI team after nearly a year out. His comeback boosts a strong squad. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth so he can play for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. Josh Inglis, who has recovered from a calf injury, will keep wickets in his place and is also part of the T20I squad.
Other inclusions are young all-rounder Cooper Connolly, who impressed against South Africa, and Mitchell Owen, who is fit again after a concussion. Nathan Ellis also returns to the T20I squad after missing the New Zealand tour for the birth of his first child.
The ODIs will be played in Perth (October 19), Adelaide (October 23), and Sydney (October 25). The first two T20Is are in Canberra (October 29) and Melbourne (October 31), with the remaining three matches in early November.
