Sridharan Sriram demands impact from Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup

Bangladesh's technical consultant Sridharan Sriram has demanded an impact from the players, rather than concentrating on their performances.

Sriram spoke at his first press conference in Dhaka following Bangladesh's T20I World Cup 2022 squad announcement and gave an insight into the Tigers' mindset.

The 46-year-old thinks the key concern for Bangladesh losing seven out of nine T20Is this year has been due to them failing to ace crunch moments.

In this regard, Sriram hailed the quick-fire knock of 24* off 9 by Mosaddek Hossain against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2022. Although his knock could not win the game for the team, it certainly boosted the team's prospects and helped them to go into the second half with momentum.

"I am looking for impact, not performance," said Sriram. "Bangladesh will win if seven or eight players make an impact. A 30 or 25 off 17-18 balls is an impact for me.

"I think performance is overrated in T20 cricket. A team could still lose if they have performers. But if we have more impact, chances are, we will win more games."

Sridharan Sriram finds Yasir Ali as an exciting prospect

Some of the key batters, Litton Das, Nurul Hasan and Yasir Ali returned to the team after missing Asia Cup due to respective injury concerns.

"I am quite eager to see more of Yasir. He has the power that Bangladesh lacks as a T20 team. Somebody who can clear the ropes and find the boundaries."

Sriram heaped praise on the Ali's abilities, and hopes that the 26-year-old will guide Bangladesh to the right path in T20I WC 2022.
