In a significant development, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a robust squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Charith Asalanka will lead the 2022 edition champions, while Wanindu Hasaranga has been included despite suffering from a hamstring injury.

Hasaranga's Asia Cup Participation Subject To Fitness

Ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has found a place in the team although he's yet to recover from a hamstring injury. So, his participation in the Asia Cup will depend on his fitness status. As reported earlier, large doubts loom over Hasaranga's Asia Cup participation due to an injury which he sustained during the Bangladesh T20I series in July.

Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka are set to spearhead the Lankan top order alongside Kusal Perera in the Asia Cup. The squad comprises impactful all-rounders like Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka, who is also set to captain the Lankan Lions in the tournament.

Chamika Karunaratne, Kamil Mishara and Nuwanidu Fernando are expected to play key roles for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. The likes of Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana ensure quality and depth in the Lankan bowling unit.

Binura Fernando's variations could make him a game-changer, while Theekshana, Hasaranga and Wellalage will be the frontline spinners on UAE's spin-friendly pitches in the tournament.
