South Africa women announce squads for England T20Is and CWG 2022

The South African women's cricket national selection committee has announced the Proteas' squads for the upcoming T20I series against England and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Middle-order batter Sune Luus will lead the Proteas contingent in both assignments, with veteran all-rounder Dane van Niekirk yet to recover from the ankle injury she suffered earlier this year.

Niekirk also missed the recent 50-over World Cup, but her absence did not have a detrimental effect on the South Africans as Luus led the side admirably to a semi-final finish.

Veteran cricketer Mignon du Preez also returns to the T20I set-up, having retired from Tests and ODIs earlier this year. Her addition will add potency to the batting unit.

The South African women are currently battling it out against England in a three-match ODI series.

Following the culmination of the ODI series, the Luus-led unit will lock horns with England in three T20Is at Chelmsford, Worcester and Derbyshire respectively between July 21-25.

The series will serve as the ideal preparation for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where cricket will be making its return after 22 years.

South Africa are placed alongside hosts England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in Group B and they will start their campaign against New Zealand on July 30.

The T20I competition will take place between July 29-August 07.
