IRE vs NZ | Guptill credits team for win, but thinks there's room for improvement

New Zealand managed to edge past Ireland by a single run in the final fixture of the bilateral series to whitewash the hosts 3-0, concluding their tour of Ireland.

The Blackcaps were pushed to their limit in all three games, with Ireland taking the games down to the wire. While New Zealand have managed to grab the trophy, it has raised some serious concerns about their performance.

Martin Guptill happy with win but knows there’s room for more

Martin Guptill, who was awarded the Player of the Match award for his stellar knock of 115 runs off 126 balls, spoke with the broadcasters during the presentation ceremony, talking about the ups and downs of the series.

It was always challenging. We potentially left a few out there, I think if we had [lost] a couple of less wickets at certain wickets, we could have really put the hammer down towards the end.”

Guptill praises Ireland’s fighting spirit

Talking about the hosts, Guptill had nothing but praise for the opposition as he credited Paul Stirling and Harry Tector for their incredible batting.

“Ireland's chase was impressive. They lost an early wicket and a little partnership and another wicket and obviously, a massive partnership. Chasing big totals like that, partnerships are a key and if Stirling and Tector could've taken it another five-ten overs longer. That would've taken it away from us very quickly,” concluded Guptill.
