India’s fixture list for next two WTC cycles announced

The World Test Championship has certainly brought back the popularity of Test cricket. The extra element of competitiveness and the final accolade on offer pushes teams to be consistent over a two-year period.

India’s fixture list for the 2023-25 and 2025-27 cycles has been confirmed, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo. The new schedule is a part of the ICC Future Tours Programme’s draft for the period of 2023-27.

India handed a tough schedule

Runners-up in the first edition of the tournament, India have once again been handed a tricky schedule. India will host New Zealand, England and Bangladesh for the 2023-25 WTC Cycle. On the other hand, they are set to travel to Australia, West Indies and South Africa for away tours.

India’s tour of Australia is expected to be in November-December 2024, with the number of Test matches increased to 5 per series. India have never won a Test series in South Africa, and their scheduled tour of the Proteas will be another opportunity to create history.

Tough tour of Australia awaits India

For the 2025-27 WTC cycle, India will host Australia, West Indies and South Africa. They will visit New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka for the overseas series. India have been humbled by the Black Caps on their previous two visits and they will look to register their first Test series victory in New Zealand in over 15 years.

The individual schedule for the series will be announced in the future, after careful deliberation from the respective boards.
