In a massive setback, South Africa might miss the services of ace speedster Gerald Coetzee in their upcoming white-ball series against Pakistan. Coetzee, who was a part of the South African squad that took on Namibia in a one-off T20I, injured himself during the game and couldn't bowl his full quota of overs. As things stand, his injury has made Coetzee doubtful for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Pakistan.

Injured Gerald Coetzee likely to miss Pakistan tour

Known for his ability to test the batters with searing pace, Gerald Coetzee had a forgettable day on the field against Namibia. While he was all over the place, bowling four wides initially, the fast bowler could deliver only 1.3 overs before picking up an injury.

ESPNCricinfo revealed that Coetzee sustained a pectoral muscle injury, which could rule him out of the Pakistan tour. Although he has not been picked for the Test series, Coetzee was named in South Africa's T20I and ODI squads

Such injuries usually take several weeks to heal. So, if Coetzee's injury is serious, he could miss out on the T20I and ODI series, which will be played after two Tests.

Gerald Coetzee's troubled past with injuries

Gerald Coetzee has had multiple injury setbacks in his brief career. The right-arm pacer made his international debut for South Africa as a bright fast-bowling prospect back in 2023. However, frequent injuries have reduced his international appearances to barely 31 matches across formats.

He was one of the most notable South African names to miss the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a groin injury. In fact, Coetzee's troublesome groin has prevented him from playing Tests in recent times, with his last appearance in the format dating back to November 2024 against Sri Lanka in Durban.
