Taskin Ahmed won't play BAN vs AFG 2nd ODI [Source: AFP]
In a significant development, Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Bangladesh at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. While Afghanistan have persisted with the same team, Bangladesh have made two changes, bringing Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain for Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, respectively.
Why Mustafizur has replaced Taskin in BAN XI for 2nd ODI vs AFG
Taskin Ahmed, one of Bangladesh's most experienced speedsters, had a torrid run in the first ODI against Afghanistan. The right-arm fast bowler failed to bag a wicket while conceding 50 runs in his eight-over spell. Taskin's failure to strike with the ball and control the flow of runs was a major reason behind Bangladesh's disappointing performance as the Tigers suffered a five-wicket defeat in the series opener.
While captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz revealed that Bangladesh have made two changes, the reason for Taskin's exclusion wasn't disclosed. So, although the fast bowler didn't live up to the expectations in the first ODI, it's highly likely that he has been rested, with Bangladesh sticking to their tried and tested method of rotating their fast bowlers to avoid injury setbacks.
Generally, the Tigers use their injury-prone fast bowlers, especially Taskin and Mustafizur, on a rotational basis. For instance, in the recently held T20I series, Taskin played the first game, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mohammad Saifuddin led the Bangladesh pace attack with Shoriful Islam in the remaining two matches.
Meanwhile, Mustafizur brings vast experience to the table, having scalped 175 ODI wickets in 112 matches. Apart from hitting the deck hard, Rahman can outfox the Afghanistan batters with his cutters and slow balls.
