It was another outstanding victory for the Afghanistan side, who claimed the second ODI of the three-match series by 81 runs and gained an unassailable lead in the series with one game to go. On the back of Ibrahim Zadran's 95 and Rashid Khan's five-wicket haul, Afghanistan earned their second consecutive victory in Abu Dhabi.
Here, we take a look at the highlights of the 2nd ODI of the three-match series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, as it unfolded at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Ibrahim Zadran's magnificent 95 helps Afghanistan get to 190
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Afghanistan lost their opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for just 11, while Sediqullah Atal lost his wicket for 8. Rahmat Shah, the middle-order experienced batter, was wheeled out of the stadium after sustaining a calf injury for just nine. He returned later, but was unable to continue.
Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi was dismissed for just four, while Azmatullah Omarzai was sent back for a duck. Afghanistan were four down for 79 when Ibrahim Zadran kept the innings going despite the wickets falling from the other end in tough batting conditions.
In the end, he eventually scored 95 off 140 deliveries, while Mohammad Nabi and AM Ghazanfar scored 22 each, helping Afghanistan post 190 runs on the board, as they were knocked over in just 44.5 overs. Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed three wickets, while Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib grabbed two wickets each.
Rashid Khan runs through Bangladesh with stunning spell
Chasing 191 for victory, Bangladesh were never in the game, losing their first wicket in the very first over, with Tanzid Hasan Tamim being dismissed for a five-ball duck. Later, Najmul Hossain Shanto was sent back for seven, while Saif Hassan and Towhid Hridoy scored 22 and 24, respectively. Miraz could only manage four, while Jaker Ali got just 18.
Omarzai dismissed the Bangladesh batters with his decent pace bowling, claiming figures of 3 for 27 in seven overs, while the real star of the show was once again leg spinner Rashid Khan, who bowled 8.3 overs, giving away 17 runs while claiming five wickets on his way to dismantle the Bangladesh batting lineup, bowling them out for just 109 in 28.3 overs.
Bangladesh lost wickets quickly in the middle overs, going from 79/4 to 109 all out, with Rashid Khan doing most of the damage. Afghanistan, in the end, claimed a crucial victory by 81 runs and gained an unachievable 2-0 lead in a three-match ODI series.
