England spinner Sophie Ecclestone will be taking a break from competitive cricket for a while to “prioritize her wellbeing”. The 26-year-old recently played a handful of T20 matches for Lancashire Women in the T20 Women’s County Cup and Vitality Blast Women in England.

Earlier this year, Ecclestone was part of a travelling English group that was blown away by hosts Australia in the Women’s Ashes series by a 0-16 margin.

Sophie Ecclestone Steps Away To Finish Recovery Journey

Sophie Ecclestone was ruled out of England Women’s squad from their ongoing white-ball home series against West Indies as she was still recovering from a knee injury. As quoted by BBC, England head coach Charlotte Edwards has now confirmed that Sophie has been “managing a quad niggle” over the past week, and she will be taking a step back from the game to prioritize her wellbeing.

Edwards added that the England team management wants to select Sophie Ecclestone for the upcoming home series against India Women later this month.

Compatible to Edwards’ claims, Ecclestone pulled out of Lancashire’s T20 match against Hampshire citing quad concerns. By stepping back from the game, the cricketer might well attain full fitness and make a strong comeback in England’s white-ball fixtures against India.

Ecclestone, The No. 1!

Sophie Ecclestone is currently ranked number one in ICC’s ODI rankings for women’s bowlers, and fourth on the women’s T20I bowling charts behind Sadia Iqbal, Deepti Sharma and Annabel Sutherland.

A couple of months ago, she played eight matches for the UP Warriorz franchise in WPL 2025, picking up nine wickets in the process and cracking 98 runs at a strike rate of nearly 130.
