England skipper Ben Stokes' solid captaincy approach with newly appointed coach Brendon McCullum has recently been in the limelight. Stokes, who has been brilliant with his all-round skills on display, has put in the hard yards for his side during the first Test against South Africa, which his side lost by an innings and 12 runs.

The southpaw retired from One-Day cricket to prolong his Test career, which for him is the utmost priority in the upcoming years. However, the 31-year-old has been bowling full-fledge in the longest format, but the former English pacer Steve Harmison believes he won't last long if he plays like that.

According to Harmison, he tries his best to do everything for his team, but he should not overstrain himself. He further said that the left-hander has been facing issues with his fitness recently, and if he continues bowling like that, he will not even play 100 Tests. Therefore, the former player believes that someone should go and tell him to focus on prolonging his Test career.

What Harmison said to talkSport

"When you need something different, when you need your quick bowler, it is Ben Stokes, your enforcer. I'm not sure the last test match I have seen Ben Stokes bowl in a game, a full game, without me thinking he's wincing or he's got an injury or there's something not quite right here.

"He's got the biggest heart going and he'll do everything he possibly can for the team, but there does become a breaking point the longer you go in your career and when you start getting in your 30s.

"Somebody's going to have to go to him and tap him on the shoulder, and say 'right the positive outcome of this situation is you're going to have to stop bowling like that because you've retired from modern-day cricket, to prolong on your test match career. If he bowls like that, he probably won't play 100."

Stokes should consider longevity in the long run

What Harmison said is probably true, England would definitely want Stokes' services as long as they can. He is literally one of their most significant assets, and losing him early would be a big loss.
