Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up about his captaincy mantra in a recent "Follow the Blues" episode on Star Sports.

The upcoming 3 months are extremely crucial for captain Rohit as he aims to break India's ICC trophy drought. But, before that, his immediate task is to retain the Asia Cup, which he and his side won back in 2018.

Sharma is the most successful skipper in IPL history. He has led Mumbai Indians to an unprecedented 5 titles since taking over the reigns mid-way through the 2013 season.

And, according to him, keeping things simple and allowing players to express themselves on the field, has been his mantra for success.

The stylish opener wants to emulate the same with the national team as the quest for a white-ball ICC Trophy continues.

Here's what Rohit Sharma said:

"What I've done over the years with the Mumbai Indians franchise and also the time that I have led India all over the world, is keeping it very very simple and not complicating things too much. Making sure that whatever I have spoken of before about giving the guys freedom and making them understand what their role is, that is what I will be expecting of myself,” as quoted by India Today.

"That is what I want to do for the team and for the other players and make sure that there is no confusion. That's the last thing you want especially before you are playing a high profile tournament. So we want to make sure that all of that is taken care of and that is where my role becomes very very crucial along with Rahul Dravid. We will try and keep focus on that, the both of us. But for me it is very simple,” he further added.
