SL vs AUS | Prabath Jayasuriya stuns Australia with twin fifers on debut

Australia have struggled against spin for almost the entirety of the Sri Lankan tour. The visitors solved the spin bowling mystery in the first Test, which propelled Sri Lanka to think out of the box. The hosts handed left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya his Test debut for the second fixture.

The 30-year-old spinner had a memorable debut, completely decimating the Australian batting order in both innings. The spinner claimed twin five-fors, having 12 scalps to his name in the second Test with figures of 6/118 in the first and 6/59 in the second innings.

Prabath Jayasuriya registered the best figures by a Sri Lankan and third-best overall by a player on his Test debut. The left-arm spinner was awarded the 'Player of the Match' for helping Sri Lanka level the two-match Test series.

The hosts had taken a massive 190-run lead in the first innings, which left Australia with a mountain to climb. Prabath Jayasuriya made huge inroads into the Australian batting order early into the second innings, which ensured that the match would not go into the final day.

Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed the dangerous batting duo of Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith. Both players had scored magnificent tons in the first innings, which were the significant hurdles in Sri Lanka's path to levelling the series.

The left-arm spinner got the better of Usman Khawaja and Steven Smith in the same over, which exposed the Australian batting order. He claimed a string of wickets in the day's final session, finding the back of Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc in consecutive overs.

It was only fitting that Prabath Jayasuriya claimed the final wicket of the Test match as he clean-bowled Mitchell Swepson for a duck.
