'One of the best hundreds I've seen' - Jos Buttler impressed with Suryakumar Yadav’s century

England captain Jos Buttler applauded Suryakumar Yadav for scoring a stunning hundred in the third and final T20I at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

On Sunday, July 10, the right-handed batter smashed 117 runs off 55 balls with 14 fours and six sixes, but his swashbuckling knock went in vain as the England team beat India by 17 runs.

Yadav reached his fifty off 32 balls, after which he took only 16 more deliveries to get to his century. He also became the sixth Indian batter after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and Harmanpreet Kaur to smash a century in T20 Internationals.

However, he got out to Moeen Ali in the penultimate over of the run-chase when India required 24 runs off the last seven balls, and the visitors eventually lost the game.

“I thought it was a fantastic chase although we fell short. We are proud of the fight. Surya was magnificent to watch. I have been watching him for a while now. Loves this format, has a wide range of shots. He has grown from strength to strength since we got him into the squad," he added.

However, Jos Buttler also heaped praise on Moeen Ali for bowling the penultimate over and getting the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, although he gave away 20 runs in the process. Yadav smashed the spinner for two fours and a six, but Ali had the last laugh.

“Guys backed their yorker, a bit of lateral movement. Delighted for those guys. Mo was really keen to bowl [the penultimate over], a selfless character and keen to go with him," Buttler further added.

As far as the game is concerned, after being asked to chase down 215, Team India scored 198 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. However, the Men in Blue won the series 2-1 after registering wins in Southampton and Birmingham.

“I thought we had a slightly above-par score. Unbelievable innings from SKY. I thought Reece Topley bowled into the wicket and took pace off really well. It was pleasing to see Gleeson back up with another performance. CJ was good too. We are blessed with options. Lot of all-rounders in there as well. We bat deep," concluded England skipper Jos Buttler.
