England legend Sir Ian Botham has escaped death as he fell into a river full of crocodiles while he went fishing with Australia's Merv Hughes in Moyle River in North Australia. Notably, the two legendary figures, who shared a great rivalry back in the day, went fishing together when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Notably, Ian Botham took to Instagram to share the traumatic experience and revealed that it was Hughes who quickly pulled him out of the water.

"I was out of the water quicker than I went in it. Quite a few sets of eyes were having a peep at me. Luckily I had no time to think about what was in the water. The guys were brilliant, it was just one of those accidents. It was all very quick, and I’m OK now," Botham said as quoted by The Mirror.

Notably, the 68-year-old failed to board the boat and fell into the river after getting entangled with the ropes. As revealed by Botham, he came face to face with the reptile but was rescued in time.

It is worth noting that Botham and Hughes had fierce battles back in the day, and now they will be seen lending their voice in the commentary in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.

Talking about the BGT 2024, India will lock horns for a five-match Test series starting on November 22, with Perth hosting the first match. India need to win the series 4-0 to qualify for the WTC finals. There are reports that India skipper Rohit Sharma might miss the first Test as reports suggest that is expecting second child with his wife Ritika Sajdeh.
