In a significant development, Shubman Gill will officially begin the next stage of his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru from December 1, 2025. It is important to note that the star player was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against South Africa and had also missed the second Test in Guwahati after injuring his neck during the first Test last month.
Shubman Gill starts rehab at BCCI Centre of Excellence
According to the Times of India, Shubman Gill first completed an extensive round of physiotherapy in Mumbai before travelling to Chandigarh for a short break with family. On Monday (December 1, 2025), he expected to reach Bengaluru to join the BCCI’s medical staff, who will now supervise his workload, fitness programs and recovery timeline.
Gill has avoided batting through the recovery period so far. However, he is expected to pick up the bat again in the coming days and begin light net sessions under close observation. Encouragingly, Gill did not experience discomfort during a series of recent flights, a positive sign noted by those tracking his progress.
"There are no red flags at the moment and he has taken multiple flights - Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru - without any discomfort. All efforts right now are aimed at having him back on the park but it will not be a rushed process.
The BCCI remains hopeful that the captain can recover in time, but the final decision will be guided by medical assessment and his comfort during batting sessions.
"The moment he is 100% and feels ready for the grind, he will be back with the squad. He is an important all-format player and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready," an official privy to developments told TOI.
Gill’s availability for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting December 9, will depend entirely on how he responds to training this week. For now, Gill's road to recovery is underway.
