Indian off-spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup owing to a fractured finger. The 22-year-old recently starred in India’s emphatic seven-win win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening match of the tournament in Dambulla on July 19.

Patil suffered the injury during her match-winning spell against the ‘Women in Green’, and she is set to be replaced by left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar ahead of India’s upcoming match against UAE.

According to a media statement released by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on July 20, Indian spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the rest of the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup owing to a finger injury.

The young Indian cricketer fractured the fourth finger of her left hand as she attempted to take a catch against Pakistan. Even after damaging her finger, Shreyanka came back to bowl and picked up match-winning figures of 2-14 in 3.2 overs for Team India.

Apart from Shreyanka Patil, her bowling teammates Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma also picked up key wickets throughout the innings to skittle Pakistan for just 108 in less than 20 overs. In response, the Indian team chased down their 109-run target in just 14.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Shreyanka’s replacement Tanuja Kanwar will be expected to take field for Team India when they will take on UAE Women at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on July 21. Kanwar recently had a prolific run with the ball for the Gujarat Giants franchise in the WPL 2024 season, picking up 10 wickets from eight innings at an impressive bowling average of 20.70.
