Guyana’s Veerasammy Permaul and Kevlon Anderson were penalized for breaching the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Code of Conduct during their final-round match against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force. With the ball-tampering scandal now a tale of the past, the most recent high-profile ball-tampering incident in cricket occurred in March 2018 during the third Test between Australia and South Africa in Cape Town.

The 2018 scandal led to suspensions for key players and brought about significant changes in the team’s leadership. Nevertheless, cut to the present, both Permaul and Anderson were penalized heavily for their foul gesture.

Permaul forfeited 75% of his match fees for a Level 2 offence, while Anderson lost 90% after both were found guilty of attempting to alter the ball’s condition. The incidents occurred on separate days, prompting umpires to replace the ball twice.

The drawn match sealed Guyana Harpy Eagles’ unbeaten campaign, crowning them 2024/25 West Indies Championship winners with 126.6 points. Barbados finished second.

Additional Sanctions for Code Violations

Additionally, teammate Ronaldo Alimohamed was fined 65% of his match fee for violating Article 2.1-2.5, which prohibits “throwing the ball (or any cricket equipment) at/near a player or official in a dangerous manner.” Initially disputing a 60% penalty, Alimohamed faced a raised fine after a review by match referee Michael Ragoonath.

CWI confirmed both Permaul and Anderson accepted their sanctions. The governing body emphasized strict adherence to conduct rules, underscoring the importance of maintaining the game’s integrity amid competitive play.
