Bangladesh have announced their squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, with Najmul Hossain Shanto set to take the helm as the full-time captain until the end of 2024. This announcement comes ahead of a challenging home series featuring six matches, including three T20Is and the first two ODIs, starting next month.

Bangladesh cricket gears up for Sri Lanka series with strong squads

Shanto's leadership marks a huge transition for the team as Bangladesh looks to build on their recent performances with a strong squad against Sri Lanka. The absence of Shakib Al Hasan, due to a retinal issue, and Tamim Iqbal, following his omission from the BCB’s central contract list for 2024, are notable.

However, the inclusion of Shoriful Islam, who secured an all-format contract for the year, alongside performers from the ICC World Cup 2023, promises a competitive edge to the squad.

The T20I squad sees the introduction of uncapped off-spinner Aliss Al Islam, recognized for his impressive performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), aiming to make a mark on the international stage. Meanwhile, veteran Mahmudullah returns to the Bangladesh setup for both the ODI and T20I series, adding experience and depth to the squad after his hiatus since the ODI World Cup.

The series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to commence with the first T20I on March 4 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, setting the stage for an intense cricketing showdown. The selected squads reflect Bangladesh's approach and ambition to harness both experienced campaigners and emerging talents in shaping strong teams for the series against the Islanders.
