Shakib Al Hasan will be giving the remainder of the Dhaka leg in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 a miss due to his persistent vision issue as he travels to Singapore for an eye check-up. The Rangpur Riders all-rounder will be seeing a medical specialist overseas and skip the tournament until at least Tuesday (January 23).

The premier Bangladeshi allrounder took part in Riders' opening game on Saturday (January 20) versus the Fortune Barishal but his eye troubles have finally compelled the player to opt for a medical procedure, having dealt with it since the ICC World Cup 2023 in India in October-November.

A Riders official confirmed the development to Cricbuzz, stating that the veteran cricketer will be skipping the next game versus the Sylhet Strikers and his participation in the Sylhet leg will depend on his eye status.

Shakib To Miss Remaining Dhaka BPL Leg

"He (Shakib) is leaving for Sylhet today and we are expecting him to be available during the Sylhet phase if he recovers from his eye problem. Let's hope for the best but if that is not the case we have to play with our available resources," Riders CEO Ishtiaque Sadeque said.

Shakib, who was making a return to competitive duties after two months versus Barishal franchise at the Shere Bangla Stadium, managed to just two runs with the bat but claimed two wickets for 16 off his 4 overs even as the Riders suffered a defeat.

Their skipper Nurul Hasan confirmed that Shakib played the game while still facing troubles with his vision. Tired of it, the player has now decided to get it properly checked and operated in Singapore.

"He (Shakib) has been struggling with eyesight problem for sometime now. I think he has been in touch with the doctors regularly. The doctors only could say in what stage the problem is now," Hasan said after the match.

Shakib will now aim to make it to the Riders' opening game of the Sylhet leg versus the Khulna Tigers in the seven-team T20 tournament, Bangladesh's premier domestic competition.
