On Saturday, Bangladesh had a painful ending to their Asia Cup 2023 campaign, incurring a heavy 21-run defeat against Sri Lanka in the eighth game in Colombo. Batting first, the Lankans posted a competitive total of 257 runs, thanks to a stunning knock from Sadeera Samarawickrama. In response, Bangladesh managed a paltry 236, suffering a Super 4 exit from the showpiece event.

Meanwhile, as the Tigers gear up for their final Super 4 encounter against India, their two most senior players, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, have returned to Dhaka. As reported earlier, keeper-batter Rahim has flown back to his home to welcome his second child.

On the other hand, Shakib cancelled his plan to travel to Dubai, deciding to spend some quality time with his family in Dhaka following his side's underwhelming performance in the Asia Cup.

However, both players are expected to join the national setup on September 13, two days prior to their final game against India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Talking about Bangladesh, they have had a torrid Asia Cup campaign so far, managing a solitary victory over Afghanistan in the group stage. While Sri Lanka crushed them twice, Pakistan swatted aside them by seven wickets in their first Super 4 fixture earlier in the tournament.
