One of Bangladesh's most influential cricketers and all-format captain Shakib Al Hasan gained an impressive win in the recently concluded Bangladesh Parliamentary elections, where the all-rounder from Magura-1 notched a landslide victory.

Hasan, who contested from Magura-1 for Awami League, won his seat by a margin of 1,50,000 votes, with the second-best being rival Kazi Rezaul Hossain, who managed just 45,993.

Hasan took an extended break from cricket post the World Cup 2023 and opted to go around in the election campaign for his party.

However, with the opposition — Bangladesh National Party (BNP) — boycotting the general elections, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-chaired Awami League have managed to retain power, winning 200 out of 300 seats in Parliament.

As quoted by AFP, ahead of the polling, Hasan expressed his apprehensions about stepping into politics and maintained that he would continue playing cricket.

"The competition and challenges are always there, be it a small team or big team. Did I retire?, If I haven't retired, then where does this question come from?".

While Hasan's political credentials can be quizzed his cricketing achievement remains spotless, given that the player is the only all-rounder to be ranked No.1 in all three formats — Test, ODI, and T20I — simultaneously by ICC.

The 36-year-old has played 66 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 117 T20Is for Bangladesh between 2006 and 2023, amassing 14,406 runs with 14 tons, and 99 fifties, while claiming 690 wickets, with 25 five-wicket hauls across formats.
