Australia will be out to try and intimidate another opposition into submission at their most ruthless ground as The Gabba plays host to the second Test against the West Indies on Thursday (January 25).

The fixture will be a pink-ball D/N affair as the Aussies continue the tradition of hosting at least one day-night Test per summer.

The Gabba usually hosts the first Test of the summer but is now set to witness the season finale for the red-ball internationals as Australia aim for a 5-0 clean slate, having earlier dominated Pakistan in a 3-0 series whitewash.

The venue retains its imposing virtues despite India breaching the Aussie fortress back in the 2020-21 summer. Its steep bounce and pace have proven nemesis for a plethora of visiting batters over the years and the trend is expected to continue over this week.

Especially with a pink ball expected to skid faster and higher off the turf and likely to pose a stiffer challenge for batters. The presence of Australia's more experienced and ruthless set of quicks in Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc could be an unplayable prospect for the technically inefficient Caribbean players.

Since its inaugural Test match back in 1931, the Gabba in Brisbane has witnessed 65 Test matches, of which, the Aussies have won a remarkable 42 and lost just 9. The most recent of which was India's historic triumph in the series-deciding Test for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. A result that broke a 32-year unbeaten streak enjoyed by the hosts.

West Indies will have to play out of their skins if they are to come close to upstaging the mighty Aussies at their preferred venue this week. Expect Cummins' men to roar to another comfortable win like they did at the Adelaide Oval.
