In a significant development, there are reports that Matheesha Pathirana is unlikely to play for Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in match 8 of IPL 2025. According to a tweet from Indian Express' assistant editor Venkata Krishna, Pathirana is still recovering from injury and yet to attain 100% fitness. 

Notably, Pathirana, who was retained by the Super Kings for IPL 2025, missed out on CSK's first match against Mumbai Indians because of an undisclosed injury. Notably, the report from Indian Express mentioned that CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has revealed that Pathirana is still recovering. "Pathirana is recovering from injury," said CSK head coach.

Fans Fear Pathirana Missing IPL 2025

The CSK fans are now concerned about Pathirana as the details of star seamer's injury is yet to be out. There were reports that the Sri Lanka pacer might miss the rest of the season, but Fleming's statement were optimistic and the star seamer might return after a few games. 

Notably, Pathirana is CSK's top bowler and his recovery is of paramount interest for the five-times winners. Notably, Pathirana, who was retained for 13 crores in IPL 2025. Talking about his performance in IPL, the right-arm seamer joined the franchise in 2022.

Pathirana's breakout season was in 2023 as he took 19 wickets and helped CSK win their fifth title. In 2024, he took 13 wickets. Thus, his absence is hurting the Super Kings.
