Kolkata Knight Riders registered their first win of the tournament after they handed Rajasthan Royals an eight-wicket win in Guwahati. Despite the win, social media was buzzing with off-field activities as the fans expressed their disappointment with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
It is worth noting that following KKR's defeat against RCB in their season opener at the Eden Gardens, the Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane had asked for a spin-friendly track for the upcoming games. However, the request was rejected by the CAB pitch curator as he remarked that they wouldn't change the pitch for a franchise.
Simon Doull Joins #ShameOnCAB Trend
The remarks didn't go well with the fans and also cricket pundits as they slammed the CAB for depriving KKR of home advantage. The latest to join the bandwagon is former New Zealand cricketer turned analyst Simon Doull who has asked KKR to move their base from Eden Gardens.
“If he’s (the curator) is not taking heed of what the home team wants… I mean they are paying the stadium fees, they are paying for what’s going on in the IPL but if he’s still not paying heed of what the home team wants, then just move the franchise away to somewhere else. His job is not to pass an opinion on the game. That’s not what he’s paid for,” Doull said on Cricbuzz.
Shame On CAB Trends On Social Media
The controversy is refusing to die down as Twitter is trending with #ShameOnCAB as the fans are demanding the curator to resign or to bow down to Rahane's demands. Now, it is to be seen how Eden Garden's pitch will behave in KKR's next match.
Notably, the Knight Riders will play their next home match at Eden Gardens against SRH on April 3.
