Former Scotland fast bowler Scott Currie has received his maiden England call-up for the upcoming three-match T20I series in Ireland. The Hampshire speedster will be replacing Saqib Mahmood, who has been ruled out of the Ireland series and the subsequent white-ball tour of New Zealand next month owing to a knee injury.
Currie made his international debut back in March 2024 last year, albeit for Scotland. He played three ODI matches for his team, all during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 in the UAE.
Mahmood To Undergo Minor Surgery, Currie Called Up
Lancashire lad Saqib Mahmood has been ruled out of the England side for the upcoming three-match T20I tour of Ireland, as well as from next month’s white-ball fixtures in New Zealand. As confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the 28-year-old has sustained a knee injury and will be undergoing a minor surgery.
Mahmood picked up seven wickets for the Oval Invincibles franchise in the recently-concluded The Hundred 2025 season in England.
The ECB has now recalled ex-Scotland fast bowler and Hampshire zealot Scott Currie as his replacement. Currie, who has played three ODI matches for Scotland, is yet to represent England in any international format to date.
Currie enjoyed a prolific Vitality T20 Blast 2025 season for Hampshire, picking up 27 wickets in the tournament in just 17 innings at an impressive bowling average of 19.33. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, Hampshire lost the final by an over to spare against Somerset in Birmingham on September 13, i.e., less than 24 hours prior to getting his maiden England call-up.
The England team, under the leadership of Jacob Bethell, is scheduled to tour Ireland for a series of three T20Is between September 17 and September 21. All three matches will be hosted by The Village in Malahide, Dublin.
