Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the most consistent batters in the Indian domestic cricket for a long time now. It helped him get his maiden Test call-up in 2024 against England, and he delivered straightaway.

The batter then hit 150 against New Zealand in the Bengaluru Test, but after failures in just two games, he did not get a single chance in Australia. The right-handed batter was then ignored for the England Test series and would now have to toil hard again in domestic cricket.

Sarfaraz Khan Continues His Good Form In Local Mumbai League

Sarfaraz Khan, though, has shown a fighting mentality all through his career and has continued that despite another setback. He scored runs for India A against England Lions and is now set to play for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy. However, even before the Duleep Trophy, the batter recently played in the prestigious Kanga Cricket League in Mumbai and scored runs too.

According to a report from mid-day, Sarfaraz Khan represented Parkophere Cricketers against Islam Gymkhana in the Division A match. The Indian cricketer batted at number 4 and scored 61 off 43 balls, and helped his team get first innings lead on a tough wicket.

Sarfaraz Khan Opens Up On Rich History Of Kanga Cricket League

The Dr. HD Kanga Cricket League is a famous monsoon league in Mumbai, and many Mumbai Cricket Stars have played in the league. In the past, international cricketers from Mumbai used to play in the league whenever they would get a chance, but the situation has now changed. Sarfaraz, while talking to mid-day, also expressed his happiness over getting a chance to play in the Kanga Cricket League. The cricketer mentioned that he has heard stories from his father about the league and added that he last played a match in the tournament three years ago.

“During my childhood, I heard a lot of stories from my father [coach Naushad Khan] about how Sunil Gavaskar sir once turned up for a Kanga League match despite returning from England the same morning. So, Musheer [younger brother] and I have always taken pride in playing this tournament. While returning from Nagpur last evening [Saturday], we were hoping it won’t rain today. It rained a bit this morning, but when I reached Islam Gymkhana, the weather was good. I played my last Kanga League match three years ago. I was going through the league fixture book before this game and saw my name in it for scoring a century in 2018 and it felt nice,” Sarfaraz Khan told mid-day.

Sarfaraz Khan Wants Star Mumbai Players To Kanga Cricket League

Sarfaraz Khan also stressed the point of current Mumbai players not playing in the league. He stated that some players fear that failure in the Kanga League would not be good for their careers. However, he cited the example of Gavaskar and Tendulkar's commitment and urged everyone to participate in city's prestigious monsoon tournament.

“All Mumbai players should play [Kanga League]. Some players feel that if they fail here, it’ll be bad for their future. But if Gavaskar sir and Sachin Tendulkar sir thought the same way, they might not have gone on to become legends. If big players play in this tournament, it will be an inspiration for the city’s youngsters. Kanga League is such a tournament that if you succeed here, you can score runs anywhere in the world."

Sarfaraz Khan would now be hoping to continue his good form in the Duleep Trophy and stage a comeback in the Indian Test side.
