Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals skipper has not yet joined his other teammates for the IPL preparation and is currently in NCA working on his fitness. He injured his right index finger during the fifth T20I against England in Mumbai, and underwent a surgery after that.

Dhruv Jurel Might Fit In As Wicketkeeper In Place Of Sanju Samson

Now, according to a report from Cricbuzz, the stylish wicketkeeper batter has passed the fitness test for batting which means he can bat in IPL 2025. However, there are still concerns over his availability to don wicketkeeping role in the upcoming edition. The report states that he is yet to pass the fitness Test for wicketkeeping role, and if he fails to clear those, he might be forced to play as a pure batter.

It would mean that Dhruv Jurel who was retained for 14 Crore by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction would keep wickets. There are also chances that Dhruv Jurel may keep wickets in the first half of the tournament and Samson might take up the role in the second half to avoid any unwanted damage to his finger.

Rajasthan Royals also have Kunal Rathore as wicketkeeper batter in their squad, but Samson seems to be recovering well. Rajasthan Royals retained Sanju Samson for 18 Crore and would be hoping that the Kerala batter takes them to their second IPL title.

Also, he is likely to open the innings for Rajasthan Royals this season after his exploits at the top of the order at the international level. They will kick-off their campaign with a day game against SRH on March 23.
