Saud Shakeel in National T20 Cup (Source:@TheRealPCB/X.com)
Saud Shakeel could not live upto his billing in Champions Trophy 2025 and he was recently not selected in both T20I and ODI squads for New Zealand tour. The batter though is a crucial member of Pakistan's Test team and looks determined to make an impact in white-ball cricket too.
Saud Shakeel Starts National T20 Cup With Flamboyant 76
He has now started off his redemption in style with a stylish knock of 76 off just 50 balls in the opening game of National T20 Cup 2025. He is leading Karachi Whites in the compeition and opened the innings against Islamabad Region. Rest of his batters could not get a big score as Islamabad bowlers found regular breakthroughs.
However, Saud Shakeel stood tall and timed his knock to perfection on a tricky pitch, playing shots all over the ground, finding gaps with precision. He hit nine fours in his knock and hit one into the crowd as well and finally departed on the last ball of the penultimate over.
Saud Shakeel's efforts took his team to 159 while Khurram Manzoor was the second highest-scorer with 29 from 17 balls. For Islamabad, Muhammad Musa Khan picked two wickets while Naseerullah Khan also grabbed two crucial scalps.
Islamabad did not start their run-chase on a bright note and kept losing wickets with Mohammad Umar showing his class with the new ball. The rain though halted the proceedings after that, but Saud Shakeel has made his intentions clear early in the tournament which is good sign for Pakistan cricket. It is also a clear message to selectors that he has it in him to perform in limited overs cricket after his exclusion for New Zealand tour.
