The Sachin Tendulkar statue at the Wankhede Stadium will be inaugurated on November 1, i.e., a day ahead of India's World Cup 2023 showdown against Sri Lanka at the iconic venue.

Earlier this year, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had announced that they would install a lifestyle statue based on the cricketer at the venue where he played his final international match for India. The installation of the figure has already been completed and will be out for the first public display midway into the ongoing 2023 World Cup.

MCA President Amol Kale on Tendulkar statue

MCA President Amol Kale confirmed that Sachin Tendulkar's life-size statue will be out for its first public display on November 1. Speaking with ANI, Kale said:

“Installation of the statue of Sachin Tendulkar (at Wankhede Stadium) that had been announced by us is complete. Its inauguration will be held on 1st November...This will happen before the India-Sri Lanka match.”

The MCA President also added that the officials have made complete arrangements for the stadium's share of World Cup 2023 matches. The venue is slated to host five matches in the tournament, including India's match against Sri Lanka on November 2.

Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Team India debut in 1989 at the tender age of 16, refined much of his batting skills at the Wankhede Stadium during his early years in the sport. The cricketer became one of the greatest batters ever to grace the game and scaled nearly every major batting record in the process.

He eventually announced his retirement at the same venue through a Test match against West Indies in 2013.
