Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is often regarded as one of the greatest batters of all time, recently expressed his happiness over a significant gesture by the Mumbai Government.

The government has announced its decision to build a statue of Tendulkar's childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar, at Shivaji Park, a place deeply connected to both their lives. Ramakant Achrekar, who passed away on January 2, 2019, was instrumental in shaping Tendulkar's cricketing career.

Achrekar's contribution to Indian cricket

His contributions to Indian cricket extend beyond Tendulkar, as he also mentored several other notable cricketers, including Vinod Kambli. Achrekar's dedication to the sport and his students has left an indelible mark, making him a revered figure in the cricketing community.

On August 29, Tendulkar took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share his thoughts on the government's decision.

He wrote, “Achrekar Sir has had an immense impact on my life and several other lives. I am speaking on behalf of all his students. His life revolved around cricket in Shivaji Park. Being at Shivaji Park forever is what he would have wished for. I am very happy with the government’s decision to build a statue for Achrekar Sir at his karmabhoomi.”

Achrekar's influence on Sachin Tendulkar was profound, as he taught him the basics of the game at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai. Despite his modest cricketing career, Achrekar's legacy lives on through the achievements of his students, with the statue serving as a lasting tribute to his contribution to Indian cricket.
