Former India head coach and cricketer Ravi Shastri revealed his list of the top five greatest or most influential Indian cricketers of all time. In a recent interview, Shastri rated Sachin Tendulkar as the top of the list, followed by Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.

Shastri recently had a sit-down with ‘The Overlap Cricket’ podcast alongside Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook. During the conversation, the ex-Indian coach was asked to name the top 5 most influential and greatest players who served Indian cricket.

Ravi Shastri Honours Sachin Tendulkar In Legendary List

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri named Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni in his elite list.

These five players, according to him, changed the face of Indian cricket in different ways and across different generations.

Shastri began with Sachin Tendulkar, calling him the most complete batsman he had ever seen. With 100 international centuries and over 34,000 runs, Tendulkar carried the weight of a nation for more than 20 years.

  • MS Dhoni

Next, Gavaskar was the first man to cross 10,000 Test runs and gave Indian cricket a new self-belief. As for Kapil Dev, he led India to the iconic 1983 World Cup win as a captain and is still recognised as India’s greatest all-rounder.

Virat Kohli, a modern-day great, has a special bond with Shastri. Together as captain and coach, the duo guided India to greater heights in Test cricket.

And then came MS Dhoni, perhaps the coolest head ever seen in international cricket. Dhoni famously guided India to three ICC titles: 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.

People were shocked to not find legends such as Rahul Dravid or Anil Kumble, but Shastri was adamant about his selection, stating that these five had the biggest influence on Indian cricket’s growth and global dominance.
