Ruturaj Gaikwad secured victory for Chennai Super Kings as captain in his first El Clasico against Mumbai Indians as skipper, scoring a crucial 69 runs. Not only did Gaikwad contribute significantly to CSK's win, but he also achieved another milestone by becoming the fastest Indian to reach 2000 IPL runs, surpassing LSG captain KL Rahul.

Ruturaj beats KL Rahul's record

Debuting in 2020, Ruturaj Gaikwad has emerged as the torchbearer for CSK after MS Dhoni entrusted the captaincy to the young Maharashtra player. In his four years at the franchise, he has been part of two IPL victories and has provided numerous opening partnerships for CSK.

It took him 57 innings out of 58 games to achieve the milestone of 2000 IPL runs. Comparatively, KL Rahul took 60 games to achieve the same record.

Chris Gayle and Shaun Marsh are indeed notable players who reached the milestone of 2000 IPL runs faster than Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Sixth CSK player to score 2000 IPL runs

Ruturaj Gaikwad joins an esteemed list of CSK players who have scored 2000 IPL runs. The list includes legendary names such as Suresh Raina, often dubbed Mr. IPL, followed by the likes of Mike Hussey, MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, and Murali Vijay. It's quite the achievement to be in the company of such legendary cricketers.

In Ruturaj Gaikwad's 57 innings, he has amassed an impressive tally of 15 fifties and 1 century. In the clash against Mumbai, a tactical move saw him batting at number 3, allowing Rahane to take the opening slot

This adjustment proved fruitful, particularly as Gaikwad was experiencing some difficulty settling into his new captaincy role, which momentarily affected his batting rhythm.

However, his match-winning performance against Mumbai suggests that he has quickly found his form and is back on track to lead Chennai Super Kings from the front.
