Ollie Robinson in action against Leicestershire
The Royal London One-Day Cup 2022 resumed on August 26 with its quarter-final round. In the first of the two quarter-finals, Kent Spitfires took on Leicestershire at the latter’s backyard.
To start off, Leicestershire captain Wiaan Mulder won the toss and paid a heavy price for his decision. Kent feasted off the hosts’ bowlers throughout their 50 overs, whacking 325-8.
As many as seven out of their top eight got runs, with three of their top four charting sparkling half-centuries. Captain Joe Denly top-scored for his side with 65 of the highest order, marking his runs off just 51 deliveries.
Notably, Leicestershire’s new-ball pacer, South African Beuran Hendricks, conceded just 35 runs off his 10 overs. The speedster also picked two key wickets during the Kent’s death overs.
The run-chase involved two half-centuries, from hosts opener Scott Steel and by captain Mulder. None of the other batters posed any threat to Kent’s total as the visitors claimed the match and a spot in the semi-finals by 81 runs.
Kent’s pace trio Grant Stewart, Nathan Gilchrist and Harry Podmore claimed nine of the 10 wickets to fall in the run-chase, with Stewart alone picking 4-42 inside his nine overs.
