Former cricketer Ravi Shastri served as India’s coach until the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. During his tenure, Team India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy twice in Australia and maintained their number one Test ranking for a notable period.

Shastri’s regime also saw Virat Kohli’s drawcards attain a 2-1 lead after four Tests in England in 2021. However, the series came to a halt with the decider getting postponed by a year due to several COVID-19 cases within the Indian camp.

By the time the fifth Test was played out in Manchester this July, Shastri had been replaced by India great Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the side. Under new coach and an interim skipper, the Indian team lost the rescheduled decider by seven wickets and the five-match series came to an end on levelling terms.

Ravi Shastri makes big claim about series in England

Quite recently, Shastri claimed that India would have won their five-Test series in England, if the decisive Test had taken place as per its original schedule.

He said that despite getting infected with the disease, he would have gone back into the dressing room after getting treatment and India would have played and won the decider.

The former Indian all-rounder also wished current coach Rahul Dravid a speedy recovery. The former Indian captain was slated to lead the ‘Men in Blue’ in their upcoming Asia Cup 2022 campaign before he was contracted with COVID-19.
