India's full-time captain across formats, Rohit Sharma, is all set to be back as the opener for the nation when they go up against Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. As reported by TOI Sports, Rohit will return to his original position to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal, which means KL Rahul will bat at No. 3.
At the same time, there is no clarity where Shubman Gill will bat for India. In fact, don't be surprised if Gill gets dropped from the playing XI.
Nitish Reddy To Be Dropped From India's Playing XI?
Additionally, India would like to have two designated spinners in the line-up. That means Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja could form a spin pair, while Nitish Reddy, who has been in excellent form, might make his way for the spin all-rounder.
Needless to say, the MCG Test is a must-win affair for Rohit Sharma and his boys, who began the tour on a high in Perth, and lost the mojo after that. They must produce a comeback to keep their WTC 2025 final chances alive, while Australia would love to carry on the momentum before the focus shifts to Sydney Cricket Ground for the fifth and final Test.
How Has Rohit Sharma Fared In Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25?
Rohit did not play the first Test match in Perth due to family reasons. However, after watching KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal perform so well at the top, he decided to draft himself in the middle order. The move, unfortunately, did not pay off, as Rohit had scores of 3, 6 and 10 before heading to the Boxing Day Test.
Hence, considering a captain should always lead by example, Rohit's return to the top of the order for India could be a welcoming move.
