Gautam Gambhir has always been known for his stern, no-nonsense approach to cricket. Appointed in July 2024, Gambhir took over from the calm and composed Rahul Dravid, whose demeanour contrasted sharply with Gambhir’s.

Indian team is feeling the effects of this change, as Gambhir’s strong personality is making a big difference in the team. India’s Test and ODI skipper, Rohit Sharma, recently talked about the switch in coaches revealing Gambhir’s stubborn or "khadoos" attitude.

"We have seen a change in coaching. Earlier, Rahul bhai was there. Now, Gautam Gambhir is our coach. He was a Khadoos (stubborn) kind of a player. He played some great innings in tough matches," said Rohit, as quoted by NDTV Sports.

Rohit further explained that Gambhir is not one to mince words, making his presence in the dressing room felt.

"My job is to play and bring out the best from others. For that, I will say whatever I have to say. The atmosphere in the Indian dressing room is such that everyone is motivated," added Rohit.

Gautam Gambhir's Tenure As Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir's tenure as head coach has already seen a mix of ups and downs. In August 2024, the Indian team whitewashed Sri Lanka in a T20I series, demonstrating the immediate impact of Gambhir's style. However, the ODI series that followed ended in a loss, reminding the team that there are still hurdles to overcome. Nevertheless, the Indian side started the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh on a high note with a win in Chennai.

The second Test at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, however, has faced weather delays. Day 2 was completely washed out due to rain, leaving Bangladesh at 107/3 after 35 overs.
